Maldives

The Island State of Maldives lies in the Indian Ocean and is the Southernmost part of the vast region of South Asia. It consists of 26 atolls stretching from Ihavandhippolhu Atoll in the North to Addu Atoll in the South. It has total area of about 298 square kilometers. Maldives is a very fascinating and important country of South Asia. Its location as a crossroads in the Central Indian Ocean gives it a unique significance from the naval security and strategy standpoint.  It is also important for the maritime trade voyaging through the Indian Ocean.
