It was one of the earliest South Asian regions to modernize. The Bengali city of Calcutta remained the capital of the English rulers in India till 1911. It was the Bengal Renaissance of early Nineteenth to early twentieth century that ushered in the effervescent spread of enlightenment ideals in South Asia. South Asia\u2019s first Nobel Laureate was a Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore of the Brahmo Samaj fame. This website is named after him. He is owned by Bangladeshis, Indian and the whole of the cosmopolitan South Asia. A mostly Catholic version of Islam is practiced by the People of Bangladesh. It distinguishes many Bangladeshi cultural sensibilities from the views, attitudes, choices and practices in the adjacent mostly Hindu West Bengal State of India. There however is so much common in the cultural lives that the differences are easily overlooked in most cases. This page discusses the various elements of the Culture of Bangladesh. Languages, literature, music, fine arts, architecture, dresses, cuisine, movies, television and theater are some of the important elements that shall come under discussions.
